SPinnaker AR

As part of the 2022 government funded eXRe project at Portsmouth University’s Centre for Creative and Immerisve XR, I produced an AR app for audience testing at Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth.

The AR app was developed in Unreal Engine, using CAD files and blueprints to recreate the viewing platform and image markers scanned on-location to generate AR content visible from the viewing tower windows, linking to local history and contemporary landmarks.

A key goal was to appeal to broad demographics and motivate longer interaction with the app and time spent on the viewing deck.
A level of gamification was included in the App ro achieve this goal through the addition of achievement collection.

The badge case feature allows users to claim rewards when they interact with each marker, collecting badges that visually link to each AR feature.

Each badge contains historical/relevant information about the area the corresponding AR asset sits in. They also link to the website and social media accounts of the organisations/landmarks the AR is engaging users with. (The Mary Rose Museum, The D-Day Story etc.)
