Gosport AR
As part of the 2022 government funded eXRe project at Portsmouth University’s Centre for Creative and Immerisve XR, I produced a proof of concept, wayfinding AR app for Gosport Borough Council, providing meaningful connections between the heritage of Gosport and the people living in or visiting it by utilising AR technologies.
Zones within the City can be selected on a macro over view of the in-app map, revealing specific locations or ‘hotspots’ within the selected zone that can be navigated to.
Along the mapped journey, geotagged ‘points of interest’ will reveal AR content when encountered including text, sound, video and AR markers.
Once the user’s hotspot destination is reached, the app moves into AR scanning mode, directing the user to search for a unique AR Target Marker. These markers allow the user to load bespoke AR content for each location.
For this proof of concept, Powder Monkey Brewery and the Explosion Museum partnered as featured hotspots.
